Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Mostly, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and should be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really nutritious and good for you. There are some foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you elevate your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a super source of protein.

If you would like to battle depression, try eating some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.

Grains can be good for driving away a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full also which can really help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can truly make you feel awful! These grains can improve your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood also!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try these tips instead!
