Discover How to Boost Your Mood with Food
Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are fantastic at combating depression. You should make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try consuming a couple of eggs to jolly up!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are good if you wish to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all wonderful for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling famished can actually make you feel terrible! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel better. Now you know green tea can help you be happier also!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
