Information on How to Improve Your Mood with Food

A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be really healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at beating back depression. You should make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for raising your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.

If you want to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Grains can be good for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can really help to better your mood. It’s not difficult to feel low when you feel hungry! These grains can improve your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you are aware that it can help you be happier too!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try several of these instead!
