Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

For the most part, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super healthy and good for you. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can better your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to learn, are wonderful at battling depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a great source of protein.

If you want to beat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can be terrible! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is actually great for your mood. You were just anticipating to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea helps you to raise your moods also!

See, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Test out these suggestions instead!
