Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Most of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we must keep away from them. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that, when you consume them, may improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to find out, are terrific at battling depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, especially the yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Eat a few eggs to jolly up!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to combat depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

Some grains are really great for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping boost your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest these grains faster than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were just waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these hints instead.
